Spring is in bloom at one of my favorite local parks, Centennial Lakes Park in Edina, Minnesota. I grew up in Edina and moved back here after college and a career took me elsewhere. While growing up, the area where this park is located was actually a gravel pit. It’s amazing to see how much this area has changed over the years. You can view the entire series here.
Public Sculpture
A really neat part of this park is dedicated to the men and women of Northwest Airlines and the growth of commercial aviation. Why is the memorial located here? Well, it’s because Donald W. Nyrop, the leader of Northwest Airlines for over 25 years, was a long time Edina resident. He was also a former federal airline regulator. The sculptures depict a boy and a girl whimsically playing with model airplanes with a family boarding an aircraft in the 1960’s when flying was a dress up adventure. It’s a wonderful piece of work.
